Thank a Vet
What we often see is far from what is.
As you step on the tarmac waving goodbye to your kids.
The sleepless nights on watch in a different time zone.
So far from family, only meetings through telephone.
Serving your country with honor and no remorse.
Praised by some, ignored by many, yet par for the course.
Well I speak for the some, those of us that say thank you.
For the long days of drill and training from those that outrank you.
The triggers that set you off and take you back as though you were there.
Some of us still thank you and have the heart to care.
For the pain you feel from your many deeds.
Whether it is mentally traumatic or roadside IED’S.
For all of the freedom’s you stand to protect.
For each and every time your brothers and sisters risk your neck.
For every appointment you have to make at the VA.
For every moment you hurt so bad but still press on because the kids want to play.
For those that sacrificed it all we thank you for their gift.
Whilst you are in danger, yet not a finger we have to lift.
For those who are down and out with tears in your eye.
Some ask you to pick your head up because you did what most wouldn’t even try.
When it is all said and done the many will vent and fret.
Some of us see how great we have it and it’s all because of a vet.
